I buy local produce whenever possible, and buy a lot of my basic cooking ingredients in bulk to save on packaging!
My Fiance and I, for our christmas gifts this year, are making homemade hot cocoa for everyone on our list, and giving it out with nifty recycled mugs from goodwill and thrift stores!
I am making a difference in both my office and home! I actually work in a LEED gold certified office, and at home, I’ve done a bunch of things like install energy saving light bulbs, get rid of the bottled water in lieu of a Brita filter, and put our lights on timers
I try to make a difference at home and at work. One of those big things is recycling. This week was my work holiday party and I made sure that all the wrapping paper was recycled and not thrown out! I also bring my own bottle to refill water, among other things! Thanks – great giveaway.
1% of our package sales we donate to the Conservation Fund or A Forever Home (a local animal shelter in VA). It all ads up and out couple love that their some of their expenditures on their wedding are going to a great cause.
I try and make a difference by recycling and using LED Lights and I drive a gas saving car. I have also given up bottled water by filling a water bottle with tap water everyday. I am always looking for new ways to help the environment.
The bottled water is such a big deal!!! We are about to install On Demand water heating to save energy and water!
Fantastic!!!
People do not realize how much waste is accumulated during the holidays…better to reuse that paper – just like you! Great example!
My husband and I have really started to try and do everything we can to help make a difference. Living in Venice Beach its pretty easy to find ways to help, we currently have an organic garden and a worm composting unit. And for the last 3 or 4 years now I haven’t used wrapping paper and opted for old magazines and fabric leftovers. We can all make a difference!. And a lovely giveaway, thanks!
I work for a huge company and we have a ‘going green’ mentality. We have no paper cups, so everyone must bring a class to reuse, and we have removed all trash bag liners so you can’t throw away your un eaten food in with your paper and make something non recyclable. At home I recycle as much as I can and keep the lights off in rooms that are not being used. I live in a small apartment so I’ve found it hard to have a compost but I’m trying to figure out a way to store one.
Recycle, recycle, recycle! I am forever going into the garbage at work and at home retrieving recyclables~turn off lights, turn down heat. Next I want to purchase an under-the-sink composting unit from Lee Valley tools. Our townhouse complex doesn’t allow composting on decks, but this should work! Thanks for the great giveaway!
I electronically file our bills at work so we don’t have to make copies of them before we pay them.
I try not to buy things new. Like, I absolutely get a thrill off of finding lamps and shelving units, vases, candelabras, etc. that I just adore that were in thrift stores or yard sales, that I just can’t go back to buying them new from main retail stores!
This branched to much of my jewelry too, where my fiance has figured out that I love getting jewelry that was either previously owned (and thus I can make stories up regarding who wore it before me, to what events, who gave it to them, on and on), or the metals and stones are recycled from other people’s returned jewels.
Jenn K has the awesomeness of the e-bills too. I love that. We’ve done that for a while too. So nifty!
We recycle almost everything at home.
You’re a green Rawk STAR!
I try my best to live earth-friendly, including recycling, composting and keeping my body free of toxins.
I work for an environmental nonprofit organization and we try to cut back on paper as much as possible both at work and at home. I’m also hoping that my upcoming bridal shower will be wrapping paper free!
I believe in the power of ‘green’ keeping all my products and services as eco-friendly as possible.
90% of my communication with potential and current customers is done electronically: email, FB, Twitter, Skype and FTP – paperless operation.
I reuse and recycle all my shipping material.
All my packages include a complimentary CD with final images to avoid printing of pictures that are not going to be framed.
i am definatley a thrift store junkie! i try to re-use or repurpose things whenever possible. i recycle and compost and i am trying to make my wedding as green as i can so i really appreciate resources like this! good luck, i wish you guys tons of success!
We just started recycling and wow has it made a difference in how much “trash” leaves our house. I would like to try composting, but my neighbor’s dog would have a field day! We have switched out all of our light bulbs for CFL’s (which I don’t love the light they give off, but the break on the electric bill was nice) we are installing new doors and if money allows, windows to help cut down on energy costs. We teach the kids about conserving electricity and water also.
In our home life, we recycle almost everything, use resusable and BPA free water bottles and a water filter, buy local produce (even walk to the market rather than drive), and are green in our paperwork (ebills, recycling our shreded docs, etc). We also try to limit our ‘buying new’ and repurpose things.
I “pack out” my trash–from everywhere! Any recyclables I create at work, at friends’ homes, or when out and about I bring home for recycling instead of tossing.
Hi, I love your blog! I really try to make a difference in all that I do. I’ve been really struggling with the un-’greenness’ of weddings and all the paper and waste that they require. I think that I make the biggest difference at work. I work in a hospital, and my office did not have any recycling program in place when I started. I now collect, sort and distribute the recycling for our department. It adds up and I notice more and more people contributing each month. I am going to need a wheelbarrow soon! Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration

I am a true believer of making a difference in our environment. At work we use 100% recycled copy paper, cups & paper towels. We recycle all ink cartridges & shut off all computers, printers & lights before we leave for the day. At home, we changed all of the lights to CFL’s lights that uses waaaay less energy than regular lights, unplug all unused electric appliances & bag our lunches. Oh & going to consignment shops to find a great reusable deal is ALWAYS a treat! Thanks for a great giveaway!
I know every decision makes a difference, so I try to think through each one. this is making a big difference in wedding planning. I’m searching for hours and hours to find the right dress that’s also ethical. we’re doing local vendors. we did ethical metal in our rings. we’re making centerpieces of recycled and reusable material. it’s worth the extra work!
I have instituted recycling of materials that people surprisingly to this day have been throwing away. My entire body feels wierd when I try to throw something in the trash that is compostable or recyclable. There is a single stream recycling dumpster close to my work that is available to all federal employees – so I have volunteered to take these items myself once a week to the dumpster.
I have also initiated the use of email for a variety of reports that were being printed on a daily basis – reminding folks to think about the environment before printing by including a signiature on all my emails. I have also been quite the squeaky wheel – constantly telling people to vote with their dollars and reminding them not to be wasteful with water – people tend to avoid me in the hall because I’m such a “tree hugger” but I don’t mind – because hopefully it makes them think!
We stop buying cases of water bottles and bought ourselves Sigg bottles.
I reuse everything as much as I possibly can, and try not to throw anything away that can be recycled. Also, if I go to a party, and people are just throwing everything in big trash bags, I make sure to pull out the bottles and cans to recycle them, which actually gives me some money, since Michigan has a 10 cent deposit!
We making as many eco-friendly decisions in our lives as we can. there isn’t a recycling program in our neighborhood, so we have to clean, keep and store our recyclables for a month and then hand deliver them to the recycling plant an hour away (it’s a pain in the neck…but we would never through all that stuff away in the dumb when we know it could be recycled in some way!). we take public transportation…buy “used” rather than new…sent wedding invitations made from 100% recycled paper…take old clothes and make them into quilts (well, this is a ME thing, not really an US thing!)…and my fiance started a recycling program at the high school he teaches at. we love mother nature
We work hard everyday to spread the message about water conservation. California is in a third year of drought and we need to start thinking about our water supply the same way we do energy! Everything from Paloma’s Nest is simply amazing!
