Eco-Chic with Emily: Fall Flowers

Fall flowers are colorful alternatives to imports.
Good morning! I’m Emily Anderson, author and creator of Eco Chic Weddings. I am so excited to be a contributor to the eco-fabulous Eco-Beautiful Weddings! Since this my very first post, I thought I would start things off by telling you a little bit about me, and what better way than to share a few of the eco-chic things I did for my own 2005 wedding.

Fall gives you tons of ways to be colorful
Our wedding was in October, which is not when my favorite flowers are in-season–Hydrangeas, Peonies, Lilacs. But every season has something beautiful to offer, you just have to get creative. Some of the Fall blooms I used were: Dahlias, Chrysanthemums (mums), Ornamental Kales (pictured above, left). Of course you can always use the many-colored leaves that are always so abundant in the Fall.
Dried flowers, leaves, twigs, and other Fall foliage is a lovely eco-alternative to living blooms. I really like wreath centerpieces. You could use a few cake stands, and have two wreaths at each table. Or you can go the minimalist route with just a simple, delicate wreath (above, bottom right). If you’re like me, the flowers are a very important part of the wedding. Before you get started, though, research which blooms are in-season, and if possible, try to find local suppliers–it’s a wonderful way to support local businesses, be green, and it’s an excellent way to save money. I’ll see you next Wednesday right here on Eco-Beautiful Weddings! In the meantime, you can find me here: Eco chic Weddings and Good With Style.
