Planning a Winter Wedding
Winter brides and grooms have oh so many options when it comes to their wedding celebrations!
The Dress
Depending on what part of the world you’re in, a winter wedding gown can be strapless or sleeved, full-skirted or fitted, or anything in between. Traditional winter gowns are often made of luxe, heavy fabrics designed to envelop the bride as she treks through a winter wonderland. Think sparkle and gorgeous embellishments!
The Décor
Traditional winter white or holiday-themed décor is always an option, but so are alternate color palettes that include rich colors like navy, charcoal, or hues of red. Décor that features tons of beautiful crystals or accents of silver or gold can create an ethereal winter setting. Beautiful white florals against any of these colors are just beautiful!
The Menu
Winter weddings are perfect for those decadent comfort foods that we don’t feel as guilty about eating during the winter months. Acclaimed caterer Main Event Catering offers menu items such as Black Truffled Purple Peruvian Potato Soup and White Truffle Whipped Mashed Potatoes as options for winter wedding celebrations. Yum!
Regardless of your winter wedding style, start and end your celebration with a warm cocktail, and have a fab time!

Great things come in small packages!
Some of the best gifts come in tiny packages and boxes. Decadent chocolates, herbal teas, engagement
rings…
Kids don’t exactly come in packages, but they are indeed small (at least for awhile!) and for those of us who are fortunate enough to have
them in our lives, they are certainly gifts. If you have children attending your wedding, creating a gift just forthem is a super cool way to make them feel special AND to provide a little distraction. We said they were special, but that doesn’t mean always quiet!
Our fave eco-kid expert Stephanie Frazier Grimm of Couture Parties returns in this issue with creative and simple DIY projects for yourlittle guests that will hold their attention while you say “I do” and during the reception while Mommy and Daddy get in a few spins on the dance floor!
Grab your box of craft supplies (or run to your local arts store) and let’s get creative!

Let Them Eat…Seafood?
Including seafood on a wedding reception menu doesn’t have to mean adversely affecting the environment. Overfishing and its effect on the world have given us the idea that fish should stay off the menu. Not so!
There is such a thing as sustainable seafood that includes species caught or farmed in an eco-friendly manner. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a handy seafood watch list to use as a reference when making choices for your wedding day, or even as you figure out what to eat for dinner tonight! Still unsure? Check NOAA’s FishWatch for every type of seafood imaginable.
Seafood currently on the Monterey Bay Aquarium best choice list include US farmed barramundi, US spiny lobster, Pacific cod, farmed bay scallops, and many more!

Favor-ite Greens
Giving a favor to your guests does not necessarily mean wasting resources. Give the greenest gift possible and donate to a cause in your guests’ names. Plant a tree in the name of each member of the wedding party, adopt a whale, dolphin or tiger, give the gift of self-sufficiency though livestock, provide an emergency food kit to the needy, or contribute to protecting an atoll. What better way to begin your life together than to give back?

Something Blue…and Green
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. That old adage really lends itself to being green! After all, Somethings Old and Borrowed are often heirlooms, leaving the Somethings Blue and New.
How can you be eco-friendly and add that Something Blue? The sky (pardon the pun) is the limit! You can go the very simple route by pinning a piece of vintage blue ribbon to the inside of your gown, or you can find your own something blue and start a tradition. We’ve found blue fabric repurposed into shoe clips, vintage embroidered hankies, eco-fabric garters, an organic gown with a blue sash, and vintage jewelry in every cerulean hue!
