Real Wedding Inspiration

Instead of featuring one wedding today – we wanted to show several ideas and things we love for real wedding inspiration.  We love Mike + Sarah’s wedding shown above at Heavenly Ski Resort last summer by Ocean Blue Photography!  Why?  We know they took full advantage of using the great outdoors as their main source of decor.

St. Martin Chalets in Austria

Planning a destination wedding and want it to be green?  Why not try the beautiful St. Martin Chalets in Austria?  St. Martin Chalets are made from locally sourced and untreated timber with 100% pure sheep’s wool insulation.  The water is supplied by a natural spring and heated and powered by their own vegetable oil power plant – all surrounded by the Alps and full of luxurious surprises! (Click on the photo above for more details!)

Hawaii Island Retreat

Getting married in Hawaii?  Going for beautiful and casual attendants clothing will ensure they will wear those dresses and outfits again!  The Hawaii Island Reteat, near the small village of Hawi of the Big Island is full of eco-friendliness and surrounded by natural beauty as well! Kati and Pete's Wedding from BellaLu Photography

Kati + Pete’s wedding (photos by BellaLu Photography) from the Spring Issue of Eco-Beautiful Weddings was so chock full of ideas and beautiful photos – we simply can’t get enough!  Not only did the bride wear a bright aqua dress, she wore sunflowers in her hair that they grew on their own farm!  Their only gift request was a tandem bike and they had a wonderful time promoting local farms for their contribution to the wedding.

Stay local, give back to the community, buy decor and clothing to reuse after the wedding and you are well on your way to having a green wedding.  This does not mean that a destination wedding is an ecological disaster.  In most major metropolitan cities – they end up being destination weddings anyway for out of town guests.  Reduce waste and do the best you can to provide locally produced food and decor.  Carbon offset if needed – and by all means have the party of a lifetime!

Earth Hour

Earth Hour

If you haven’t heard – now is the time to plan! Start making a change in your life by committing to this one hour in your life on 3/26/2011 from 8:30-9:30pm!

You have tried to be green, and now you can join the world by turning off the electricity for one hour!

This year – more than ever – it is imperative that we come together and learn what it is like to go without. If we don’t reduce the amount of energy we consume – one day – there will be none to consume!

Learn how to make small changes in your lifetstyle in your part of the world by getting on the Earth Hour Website.

The other thing you can do is take this time to think about our brothers and sisters in Japan while turning the lights off.
Want to donate to help the Japanese people?  Here are a few websites that will help get the necessary aid to those that are suffering in Japan. Helping others is part of the social justice aspect of being green.

Convoy of Hope

Shelter Box

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies

Our friends over at Utterly Engaged Magazine + Ever Ours got together with a ton of wedding bloggers recently to help donate to Shelter Box – check out the amazing amount of money that they have fundraised for Shelter Box and donate as well here:

For Japan With Love

Want to donate immediately and easily to the Red Cross? Just text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 through your cell phone.

Tell us how you plan to use this hour?

Maybe make a plan on how you will green your wedding during that hour.

Maybe consider asking your guests not to give you gifts but donate to Japan instead?

Maybe it will be just a time of reflection for you…please let us and others know by writing below so we can encourage each other to use this time wisely and not freak out that we don’t have our lights on and our computers turned off!
