{Guest Post from Eco and Elsie} Upcycling Old Items into New Ones for Your Wedding or Event.

Thank you to the Eco-Beautiful Weddings Team for allowing me to be a guest blogger for the next few days! I’m excited to share with you some fun, eco-friendly ideas and if you like what you see, feel free to join me at Eco and Elsie, my own blog about earth friendly weddings, life, and marriage.

As an eco-friendly gal, I am always looking for ways to re-purpose things around my house. I actually have a problem hoarding small glass jars – pickle jars, olive jars, jelly jars, you name it – because I find them so cute and I just know I can find a new use for them. I usually end up with a massive collection of tiny jars and I think my husband secretly recycles a few every now and then just to get them out of the way, but anyway, I digress. On to the good stuff! This post is all about taking everyday items and finding not-so-typical uses for them in your wedding or event. I hope you enjoy!

Over the course of your engagement, collect corks from
friends and family and turn them into a monogram!
These are from Etsy seller My Happily Ever After 23.
Use an old picture frame to create a table number!
This is something I created with at Eco and Elsie with an old skirt
and some embroidery thread.
That suitcase can be used for more than just traveling!
This unique wedding featured vintage luggage in their centerpieces!
I realize not everyone has a big old window laying around,
but this effect is pretty stunning, right?
This was found over at Style Me Pretty.

A little DIY never hurt anyone.
Here you can learn how to take an old crate or wire basket
and turn it into a rustic card box.

{Guest Post from Eco and Elsie} Etiquette Shmetiquette

Thank you to the Eco-Beautiful Weddings Team for allowing me to be a guest blogger for the next few days! I’m excited to share with you some fun, eco-friendly ideas and if you like what you see, feel free to join me at, Eco and Elsie, my blog about earth friendly weddings, life, and marriage.

This is my spin on the typical “Dear Abby” question. If you are easily offended, this may not be for you, but if you need a good laugh and a refreshing take on eco-friendly wedding etiquette, then read on!

Question: The double envelope tradition seems wasteful to me. However, when I suggested to my family that we only use one envelope, they say everyone will make fun of my invitation. What should I do? (FYI: If you’re not familiar, a “double envelope” is an old wedding tradition wherein the wedding invitation is sent in two envelopes. The outer
envelope is for mailing purposes only, the inner envelope is primarily to identify who is invited.)

What you want to say: Yo, family! You suckers are weak. This is the earth we are talking about here! I don’t want to create extra waste! You get that? Besides, the only reason the double envelope tradition started is because the butler would open the dirty outer envelope before presenting the clean inner envelope to the home owners.* Hellloooooo? Do you see a butler around here? Our dog does NOT count!

What you probably should say: It doesn’t matter if people make fun of my decisions as long as they are ones that I believe wholeheartedly in. Making eco-conscious choices is something that’s important to my fiance and I and we are determined to have a wedding that represents our values. Thank you very much.

*This is true. :)

Food Trucks!

bride groom foodtruck justin lee photography

If you are seeking the fun and fresh for your wedding, how about a food truck? Food trucks are creating a buzz offering an array of great foods.

Many food trucks are keeping it green by using propane fuel and organic, local ingredients to bring some eco-fab eats to receptions all over the country!

If you and your finance are foodies at heart or want to bring some local culture to out of town guests, food trucks can be a fun addition to your wedding. Offering sweet treats such as organic doughnuts or soy-coconut ice cream or fancier fare such as lobster and fresh salads, a food truck is such a cool way to cater!

If you were searching for a {green} food truck, or if we’ve talked you into it, here a few to check out!
