  1. I consider myself a true “greenie” and I look forward to setting a good example for my husband-to-be and his family. Being a responsible environmentalist comes from education and passion to do what is right and sharing good habits with others makes a huge difference.

  2. We were environmentally conscious well before the wedding (in Sept) and we’ll continue to be forever after. Each new place that we rent we switch out the light bulbs to ones that use less energy. We turn down the thermostat in the winter and pile on the layers and blankets to stay warm. We accidentally left our low-flow shower head in the last place we lived and haven’t bought one for the house we’re in now, so we’d really appreciate winning the Waterpik!

  3. Rachel K. says:

We’ve only registered for items that we absolutely need, and made sure they were all made in a sustainable manner. We have already filled our house with recycled goods (Thanks Goodwill!).

  4. Amy Lustig says:

Getting married is an opportunity to get new things for your new life together but it’s also a great time to “green” your home and do good for others. We are registering for multi-section garbage cans so that recycling is easier. We’re also donating items that we’re replacing to those in need. We’re actually going to shut off and unplug our computers when not in use… the little things all add up.

  5. Kaitlyn Lehman says:

We will be changing so much! First of all, we are moving to Portland, OR, the “green” capital of the world, so I’m sure we’ll be learning all sorts of tricks! Second of all, I will be teaching my man-to-be :) how to recycle, conserve water while washing dishes, etc. He’s not so good at these things on his own, and I can’t wait to show him how easy it all can be!

  6. Angela says:

We will try to make our home as green as possible. A water-saving showerhead will certainly be a help! We plan to purchase energy star appliances when we do decide to buy new items.

  7. Emily Rose says:

No registry for us! Also, we’re phasing out our seventh generation and method cleaners and using vinegar and lemon and such!

  8. We plan to reduce our oil consumption by combining trips whenever possible. I also plan to walk or ride a bike on simple trips close to our home.

  9. Sandy says:

I can’t wait to go shopping and switching my fiance’s personal products to eco-friendly cruelty free products! And also shortening his showers!

  10. I’ve been environmentally conscious for most of my adult life, and I’ve been teaching my fiance (and his family) about changes to their lifestyle that will make a tremendous environmental impact (i.e. convincing his family to move closer to work/city instead of commuting a long distance from their sprawling suburb). Since we’ve been together, I’ve gotten my fiance to change to environmentally friendly products, recycle, lower the thermostat while we’re out and while we’re sleeping, turn off lights in rooms we’re not occupying, etc.

Also, since we get up at the same time every morning, we take showers together (not just because it’s fun, but because it save water and energy from heating the water)!

  11. Caroline says:

I’m a true eco-warrior, shutting off lights whenever I leave the room, so much so that my fiance has also picked up the habit. I don’t do Christmas gifts, but for our first one together, he requested a
Smart Strip SCG3 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching Technology and Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor. He and his dad were so cute, huddling over their new gadgets, all the while saving electricity. Merry Xmas, indeed!

  12. Sharon says:

We became the proud parents of a kitty once we got engaged, and we’ve been going super-green with him: composting his litter, feeding natural foods and all his toys are made of eco-friendly materials. We’ve also donated a lot of things we don’t need since combining households and not asking for material gifts for the wedding. We’re hoping that’ll cut down a lot on our waste!
