DIY Style: Wreaths

‘Tis the season for beautiful wreaths for the fall and winter! Wreaths are the perfect accent to your wedding décor, and can be hung in your home after the celebration is done as a sweet memory of your celebration!

If the changing of the seasons has inspired you to try something crafty, a wreath is the perfect project to get you started. The wreath pictured above is made of painted sweetgum fruit! Here are the instructions, courtesy of Martha Stewart.com:

Supplies

Sweetgum Fruit

Floral Wire

Hot Glue Gun

Ribbon

Floral Pins

Gold Floral Paint

Step 1

Cut floral wire into 2- to 3-inch-long pieces. For each sweetgum fruit, remove stem, dab hot glue into 1 opening, and insert 1 wire; let dry.

Step 2

Coat sweetgum fruits and wreath with spray paint; let dry.

Step 3

Push wire end of each fruit completely into wreath. (If pushing the wire in is difficult, pre-drill the wreath with a pointy object, such as a knitting needle.)

Step 4

Attach ribbon to top with floral pins, for hanging.

Step 5

Spray some of the sweetgum fruit in different shades of gold floral paint; mix painted sweetgum with sweetgum fruit glittered in different shades of gold.

Thanking Mom

We HEART Moms! How would this wedding have happened without her? We know, it wouldn’t have. So you have to do something special to thank her for all of the love and support, and just to let her know how special she is to you and your groom-to-be.

A very thoughtful way for a bride to honor her mother is to present her with a gift prior to the wedding ceremony. Depending on her personal tastes, there are so many cool eco-friendly gift options. Consider these for starters!

If your mother is a jewelry lover, anything from eco-friendly designer Jemma Wynne would be a stunning addition to her jewelry box. A bracelet or earrings that completes her wedding day or rehearsal dinner look would be hot!

Does Mom love flowers? How about a beautiful arrangement delivered on the morning of the wedding from eco-friendly florists Organic Bouquet? And if you’d like to really surprise her, have another arrangement sent to her on your one month anniversary just to remind her of how much you appreciate all she’s done.

Taking a moment to capture your thoughts in a letter is a very sentimental gift your mother will certainly treasure forever. Write your letter on recycled paper and present it in a vintage letter box that Mom can use to store her other wedding-day keepsakes. Etsy.com is a great resource for beautiful handmade and vintage boxes-this one is from seller NanaMontana!

Green Gadgets for the Groomsmen

The rehearsal dinner is right around the corner, and picking up those last minute gifts of gratitude for the bridal party is next on the to-do-list. When shopping for the guys, consider a fun(and hopefully useful) green gadget!

Online resources such as Treehugger and EarthTechling are great resources for gift suggestions, so we looked to these sites for a few suggestions to get you started…

For the guy who can’t live without his MP3 or phone even when he’s outdoors, this charger pack from Brunton Outdoors charges compatible devices using solar power.

If one of your groomsmen is a lover of great coffee, this hand-powered espresso maker from Hammacher Schlemmer is awesome!

The best man can head to the beach with his favorite songs using this solar iPod speaker dock available from Eton!

Already wrapping your green gadget gifts or have more ideas? Please share your faves here on the blog!

Today’s real wedding comes to us from Bostonian photographer Glen Cooper! A seriously stylish couple that did not want to sacrifice the environment by planning their beautiful wedding day!

Their floral designs and cuisine were made from sustainably harvested, organic and locally grown resources. All of their paper products were made from recycled content and they avoided envelopes for the invitations!

Look at that beautiful cake!!!!

Many congrats to Emma and Steve for such an Eco-Beautiful Day!

Thankful….for Love!

There’s so much to be thankful for.

But there’s one wonderful thing in particular that gets an extra dose of grateful.

Love!

Every wedding kiss, starry-eyed moment and joyful smile is a reminder of how lucky we are to have love. When it comes to what none of us at Eco-Beautiful could live without, Audrey Hepburn expressed it most elequently: “The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.”

All about Desserts!

Dessert bars continue to be a fun addition to wedding receptions! If you’re planning the menu for your fall wedding’s dessert bar, think along the lines of homemade goodies-seasonal fruit pies, apple crisps, pecan tarts, warm rice pudding…the possibilities are endless.

Make your dessert bar memorable not only with the treats you serve, but also with the presentation.

This couple’s use of a vintage dresser to showcase their homemade apple pies is just adorable!

A wood table is perfect for displaying a smaller assortment of desserts.

Or use a larger piece for a more grand presentation.

Using an assortment of items to display goodies is a beautiful way to use antiques from your home. Or borrow from family and friends!

Planning a Spring Rehearsal Dinner

If you’re a Spring bride, have you have a chance to think about the rehearsal dinner? If not, we’re here to help!

Once you’ve selected a venue for your party (think restaurants that specialize in green and organic cuisine!) consider intimate family-style seating at long tables which allows your guests to become better acquainted…

Pretty seasonal flowers can add a pop of color to your tables….

Include a great cocktail and you’re all set for a great event to kick-off your wedding celebration!
