Brides in Bloom

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
- Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Weddings and flowers go together like chocolate and cake! Flowers symbolize beauty (isn’t every bride a stunner?) and, since a woman almost always carries a bouquet down the aisle, are inexorably linked to brides.

Flowers fresh from the garden are lovely, but lasting details inspired by them are marvelous! A wedding gown awash in blooms and fluttering petals paired with a small or keepsake bouquet never fails to take our breath away.

Claire Pettibone Bridal Recap

Claire Pettibone Fall 2011 Collection Strapless and Backless gown with shrug

My absolute favorite dress designer of all time is Claire Pettibone. I know this is saying a lot - but it’s true. I am just enamored with her style and how feminine her gowns are without being over the top. She also manufactures all of her gowns in the US. We took a look at 5 of her new gowns at market this week. Above is a strapless and backless gown that comes with an optional shrug. So pretty, delicate and gorgeous with the art deco glam on the waistline!

Claire Pettibone Sleeveless Gown Feminine

Perfect for the petite bride out there - this gown has the uber-feminine style that we are used to with Claire’s delicate details. The straps are made with beautiful lace along with that gorgeous and subtle fabric flower found on the front and back of the dress.

Claire Pettibone gown with cap sleeves and ruffled mermaid style

When I saw this dress I nearly gasped. The gorgeous gown looked like it stepped out of the past and got an update from Claire. I just love the art deco stone detailing along the backside of the gown. Again, super feminine and ethereal all wrapped into loveliness!

Claire Pettibone Simple and traditional gown

Just elegant and lovely! This dress is perfect for any evening wedding. There is a touch of traditional style with Claire’s amazing flair with the cap sleeves and gorgeous lace trimmed detachable train. My favorite from this collection for sure!

This layered strapless dress als0 comes with an optional shrug. Again, gorgeous and simple details all over the dress make for a stunning arrival down the aisle!

Spring 2011 Bridal Market, Pt 2

Almost every collection we saw exuded a graciousness and joyful spirit that left us smiling. There was also a definite effortlessness, from modern to vintage-inspired designs, that we can’t wait to see on real women on their wedding day!

Many of the trends we saw at NYC Bridal Market often found their way onto one dress. The overall effect was a relaxed, layered elegance easily tailored to suit any woman’s style.

Straps:

Though strapless will always be a favorite for many, for ladies looking for an alternative, 2011 just might be your year! Fabulous necklines such as V, surplice, and halter were everywhere, from Adele Wechsler and Elizabeth St. John to Vera Wang.

Organic Style:

As much as we’d like to say that every designer has gone green, that wasn’t the case, but it seemed everyone was taking their cue from Mother Nature this year. Swirling, draped fabric and soft, natural details like clusters of flowers all reminded us of the natural world.

Spring 2011 Bridal Market Recap, Pt I

NYC Bridal Market was such a fabulous, fun whirlwind! Visiting designers, seeing the collections, and meeting such great people - we wish you all could have been there!

So, we’re bringing some of Spring 2011 NYC Bridal Market to you, sharing the (eco) trends and bridal gown beauty we saw.

We’re thrilled to report that, overall, with each passing season, eco-friendly in bridal is evolving from niche to mainstream, with many designers incorporating green business and production processes into their designs.

Full and Flowy

From fitted figure highlighting gowns to graceful, fuller skirts, movement and gossamer textiles were on the runway! The fluttering, floating movement and classic shapes combined for breathtaking, buoyant style.

Shimmer!

Almost every collection we saw had gowns with sparkle – some bedazzling, others subtle, but without a doubt dazzling. The sparkle made its way into accent belts, fabric, and broaches, making it a very versatile trend.

Bridal Market Recap: Claire Pettibone Fall 2010 Collection

Courtesy of Foxy Social Media

Claire Pettibone‘s new Fall 2010 Collection, ‘Tea for Two’ emitted a sweet, delicate femininity reminiscent of Shakespearean romance. As one of only a handful of eco-friendly designers showing her collection, I had the pleasure of taking a first look during Bridal Market in New York City last week.

A fusion of vintage flair meets ’A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, every single gown used natural fabrics and incorporated lace and embroidery detailing. Most gowns had layers of natural cotton voile. What were the top picks? We oohed and aahed over the dresses that had Claire Pettibone’s signature design- sheer back gowns with embroidery details.

So if you are an eco-fashionista looking for that gown that will have you floating down the aisle, look for this collection in the fall! Once again Claire Pettibone’s collection successfully melded eco-friendly fabrics with heavenly style at an affordable price point.
