Heather & Jerry’s Green Wedding
Get ready for a true green ride as this wedding is filled with eco-details and all for under $6,000! This wedding truly shows how you can have a small budget, be green and stylish at all the same time! Above is where we will start. They planted an orange tree to represent the unity of their two families and their commitment to the environment. The tree now lives outside their dining room window! Their wedding arch was made from drift wood that they found at one of their favorite local beaches and is now the entrance to their organic flower and vegetable garden at home. Amazing!
Their ceremony flowers were comprised of local herbs (mint, rosemary, lavender from family friends gardens) and local flowers. The arrangements were held in reusable mason jars, which were then transported to the reception site for additional decor. The mason jars are now being reused by the bride’s mother for canning gifts for the holidays and other floral arrangements.
The bride’s father made these beautiful reusable wood flower boxes for various tables and they used potted plants inside each box – which were all seasonal and local.
Look at the view at their gorgeous backyard wedding in Santa Barbara, located only 8 miles away from their ceremony location to reduce the amount of traveling/CO2 emissions.
Their wine was donated to them from a family friend who owns and operates a local winery. The beer and wine were displayed in reused wine barrels which are now used as planters in their patio at home. All of their food options were vegetarian and friends made hummus and organic veggie platters as well.
Their beautiful vintage rings were made with diamonds from the 1930′s for Heather’s ring and the 1980′s for Jerry’s ring. Her earrings were made from one diamond from her mother’s wedding ring and the other diamond was made from a necklace given as a gift by Jerry’s father to his mother. Both sets of parents are divorced now, so this was a sentimental way of incorporating the love they once shared.
Heather’s gown was made with natural silk and she plans on dying it to wear it again. Jerry’s bamboo clothing are still part of his wardrobe!
Other fun green details:
- All of their invitations were managed online through their website and they used zero paper products for their wedding.
- They used natural raffia to tie their dinner napkins with.
- Their beer cups and appetizer plates were bought from Eco Products. Made from sustainable FDA approved renewable and recycled resource (Indigo) which is certified compostable.
- Their wedding signs were handmade and refurbished from reused wood
- They bought their linen table cloths, napkins and organza overlays so they could be reused for other events and occasions
- They bought all of their votive candle holders and candles and ceremony decorations so they could be reused for other events
Super green kudos to Heather & Jerry!

Our New Bridal Bloggers: Sarah & Dan
Hello everyone! My fiancé, Dan, and I will be sharing our experiences over the next 21 months planning our Eco-Beautiful wedding.
But first, we would like to introduce ourselves to you.
Dan grew up in the woods in southcentral Pennsylvania, and has always has a passion for the environment. He studied Environmental Resource Management at Penn State, and now works to preserve land across the country.
I was born in western Canada and grew up in north Jersey, but also developed a passion for the environment from spending almost every summer of my childhood in Canada canoeing, camping, and fishing. I majored in Philosophy and Religious Studies at Penn State, continued on to get my law degree, and now I am a lawyer in D.C.
Dan and I met six and a half years ago on a road trip to West Virginia. We were both new members to the Nittany Grotto, the Penn State caving club. That weekend was the start of many weekends of caving, camping, and outdoor adventuring together.
And now six years later…we are living on the bay in Havre de Grace, Maryland spending our free time kayaking, hiking, AND planning our wedding for 9/29/12!
